Writings

I have been writing with Hoosier Huddle for almost a year now. I was lucky to be able to experience the many ups and the very disappointing downs over that year. During my Time with the Huddle, I have written a good amount of articles. Now, as of April 1st, Hoosier Huddle is now the official publisher of Rivals.com

Because of this, the old site is no longer around. So, for those articles I wrote, I will attach a PDF of them so they can be viewed. I also made subsections for types of articles about Coach Cignetti, the players, offseason articles, and more!

It may still be the offseason, but that doesn’t deter Coach Cignetti from electrifying fans and students who are eagerly waiting to see how year two will fare for the award-winning coach. On Tuesday, Coach Cignetti was involved in an event held only for Indiana University Students called A Conversation with Coach Cignetti. The event was held at the IU Auditorium and was the first time an IU Athletics Coach did anything like this since the famous Bobby Knight.

The Hoosiers are heading back to Bloomington after finishing their last game of the season. Indiana suffered a disappointing loss to the Fighting Irish Friday night and couldn’t get things going all game long. One of the biggest things on defense was their inability for the first man to make the tackle.

After a very memorable 2024 season, the Hoosiers have to look ahead to the things to come. Last season, the Hoosiers were the No. 1 run defense in the country, and they want to continue that dominance. I'll take a deeper dive into Indiana's defensive line for the upcoming season.

From dream to reality, Lee Beebe talked with the media on Tuesday and shined a light on his journey, starting from a walk-on at UAB to becoming a scholarship athlete for the Indiana Hoosiers.

By now, you probably know who Aiden Fisher is. The All-American linebacker had a colossal year leading the Hoosiers defense which was considered one of the best defenses in the country in 2024. Last season, Fisher had 118 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, and 1.5 sacks. He was a great leader for the entire defense and now that he decided to return, he will be looked at to lead the team once again. But this is a very different team from previous years. With the amount of success the Hoosiers achieved last season, some of the young guys needed a reality check when they first arrived in Bloomington.

The 2025 NFL Draft is slowly approaching and for the next month, schools around the country are hosting pro days for athletes to showcase their skills to NFL scouts for the chance of making the roster of an NFL team. After a tremendous season under first year head coach Curt Cignetti, the Hoosiers had a lot of eyes on them. However, only two Hoosiers were invited to the NFL Combine, Kurtis Rourke and CJ West. This left some outstanding Hoosiers like Jailin Walker and Myles Price to showcase their skills during Indiana Football’s Pro Day with the hope of attracting the attention of the NFL scouts who attended.

It’s no mystery that Indiana has been great at running the ball so far this season. The Hoosiers lead the Big Ten and Power Four schools in rushing touchdowns with 23 total and that can be credited to the dynamic group of running backs in Bloomington. It can be difficult sharing the spotlight, especially as a running back, but their unselfish mindset has helped them in achieving success so far.

Indiana had its first Big Ten matchup against UCLA Saturday night and boy did they not disappoint. Throughout the week, Coach Cignetti harped on the fact that their trip to Pasadena would strictly be a business trip, and they treated it just like that. The Hoosiers marched into the Rose Bowl stadium to take care of business and walked out with a 42-13 victory.

Amare Ferrell, a holdover from the Tom Allen regime, has emerged as a star in the Hoosiers defense. Last week against UCLA, Ferrell made the only interception of the game and also recorded a sack and 6 tackles. As a sophomore, Ferrell has really stood out as a defensive threat for the Hoosiers.

The regular season is officially over for the Hoosiers and for the first time in program history, they are 11-1! After a heart-breaking game against the Buckeyes last Saturday, the Hoosiers had some issues to work on before facing off against their biggest rival, Purdue. Throughout the game, it was clear that the Hoosiers understood the assignment as they tore the Boilermakers to shreds.

The Hoosiers traveled to Columbus for one of the biggest games in program history and it did not fair out how they expected it. Besides the offensive struggles, the game became out of the Hoosiers control due to the special teams’ multiple fiascos.

After an exciting season under first-year head coach Curt Cignetti, the Indiana Hoosiers are striving for more success for the upcoming 2025 season. The Hoosiers have had yet another successful recruitment period – bringing in 19 new transfers into the program while also retaining a lot of key players.

Day 3 of Big Ten Media Day arrived and featured some of the most interesting group of coaches. During the press conferences today, we heard from the coaches from Oregon, Minnesota, Maryland, Washington, Indiana and Michigan. While most of the coaches talked about their school’s program, Curt Cignetti was putting on one hell of a spectacle for all to see. With his confidence and charisma, it was refreshing to watch him speak.

It has been three months since quarterback Fernando Mendoza committed to IU which has given him some time to get acclimated to Bloomington and the team. Mendoza is luckier than other transfers though because his brother, Alberto, already has a year of experience with Curt Cignetti. With Alberto’s assistance, it has made Fernando’s adjustment a lot smoother.

There have been many doubts if Indiana would be able to perform against tougher teams and they made a statement today in a huge blowout against the Cornhuskers. The Hoosiers put up a whopping 56 points and allowed only 7 from the Huskers during Saturday’s matchup. Some people didn’t believe that Nebraska’s defense would be too difficult for Indiana to handle, which was the complete opposite of what happened. Indiana’s running backs took control of the game with the help of this stellar offensive line.

Hoosier Huddle’s ‘At First Glance’ series carries on as we preview Indiana’s week five matchup against the Maryland Terrapins. A familiar foe for the past 10 years, the Hoosiers hope to snap Maryland’s three-game win streak against them.

Saturday’s victory against the Cornhuskers was a historic win – tying the school record for the largest margin of victory against a Big Ten opponent (49 points). While the Hoosiers had an excellent game, one player was missing from the second half that has some fans worrying. Quarterback transfer from Ohio, Kurtis Rourke, didn’t play in the second half due to a thumb injury and won’t play this weekend against Washington. Rourke is supposed to return soon, but until then, redshirt sophomore Tayven Jackson, will be stepping into the role as the Hoosiers’ starting QB for this week.
